During the summer of 2009 the Heckman Pass wildfire swept across several 1000 ha of pine and spruce forest at the top of The Hill on Highway 20. It was a hot fire and still looks pretty bleak when you drive through. Last summer there wasn't a lot of new greenery showing, but this summer there are a lot more signs of the recolonization of the burn.
