In a normal winter the Bella Coola River at this time of year would be very clear, unless we had a slight thaw and a bit of high water. So far though this winter, even when the river was lower and freezing we are not seeing the clearing. It seems to be due to the large tributaries like the Nusatsum, Talchako and Atnarko Rivers that are still moving fresh sediments that were exposed in the Great Flood of 2010. I guess the normal this year will be that it doesn't ever clear up until we move into the glacial melt in May.
