March is really the last month to make up or hold our mountain snow pack in the Coast Mountains - well April can have some good snow as well, but the trend this year seems to be that winter is waning quickly so we shouldn't count on too much beyond this month. As far as current conditions for snow pack at the start of this month -- Bella Coola Valley bottom, patchy remnants of snow, snow guage at Heckman Pass on Highway 20, 3.5 feet (106 cm),
East Branch ski hill 4.5 feet (135 cm) - my estimate of mountain snow pack in the mountains north and south of the valley is 6-7 feet (190 cm). We should have more for a good balanced spring and summer runoff, but it could be worse.
