A good indication of just how cold and delayed spring has been this year in the Bella Coola Valley is to watch one of my key
phenology indicators -- the Hazel Nut tree (native to BC, but not native to the Bella Coola Valley). My tree which I planted years ago is just in the pollination stage while
last year on Feb 27 it was at the same stage it is now.
It was still a pretty good day in Bella Coola, considering there was a bit of rain overnight and it gradually cleared reaching 12 C.
